We offer evening classes for adults in French, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian at various levels from beginner to advanced.
Depending on experience and availability of places, new students may join a class at any time.
All classes are currently being delivered online via Zoom.
Each course runs for a school year and prepares students for the next level the following September.
All classes will remain online via Zoom until Step 3 of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown (17 May at the earliest). Once we reach Step 3, arrangements for classes will be agreed between tutors and individual classes.
Term 3 is a continuation of the courses started in September but, depending on experience and availability of places, new students may join a class at any time. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire.
The summer term begins on Saturday 17 April and ends Friday 9 July 2021. There are no evening classes on Monday 3 May (Bank Holiday) or during the school's half-term holiday (Monday 31 May to Sunday 6 June 2021).
A description, including entry requirements, for each class available during the Summer Term can be viewed by clicking on the course names in the list below.
Students should expect to contribute and actively participate in lessons which are delivered by our team of enthusiastic tutors, many of whom are native speakers. None of the languages is examined; however some of the teachers may require students to purchase a textbook. Please do not purchase any books prior to your class commencing.
If you have any questions about the entry requirements for Russian, please email email@example.com
For other classes if, after reading the entry requirements, you are not sure which level is right for you please complete our pre‑course questionnaire and we will contact you with our recommendation.
Our online courses are delivered as real time interactive classes via Zoom with your tutor and fellow students. To take part you need a computer, laptop, tablet or mobile phone connected to the Internet. The device you use also needs to have a camera, microphone and speakers. Most devices now have these built in, but if not you might have to buy them from a computer shop and connect them to your device.
You do not need a Zoom account to participate in our classes but when you join your first meeting, if you have not used Zoom before, you will be prompted to download Zoom onto your device. To find out more about using Zoom and to join a test meeting, please visit https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115002262083-Joining-a-test-meeting
The unexpected transfer from classroom lessons to online lessons at the end of March 2020 was very successful with both tutors and students adapting to the new environment very quickly. Our tutors are now very experienced in delivering classes this way.
Our classroom courses take place at Bishop Wordsworth’s School, Exeter Street, Salisbury, SP1 2ED. The learning environment is relaxed and informal in pleasant surroundings. Classrooms are well equipped and parking is usually available on site.
Before attending a class at school, it is important that you are familiar with our Covid-19 procedures which can be found at the bottom of this page.
