Enrichment

As part of the compulsory curriculum, all Year 12 students have one double period of Enrichment every week. We are aiming to extend the opportunities open to students at BWS, prepare you well for life beyond school, and to genuinely broaden your curriculum. After June we offer additional careers guidance and UCAS (university application) support.

Most Year 12 students will follow a carousel of activities in the autumn and winter focused on Independent Living (including Cookery) and on Law and Society, and every half term there is a Head Master’s Lecture for all students with a guest speaker.

Some students may instead choose the Community Sports Leader’s level 2 Award as their Enrichment option. The award is designed to encourage people to get involved in the organisation and provision of sport on a sustained voluntary basis, some of whom will then choose employment in sport.

More broadly, the CSLA programme concentrates on improving leadership skills.

Sixth form students have access to a very wide ranging library of research materials via MS Teams. The articles are posted by the academic staff and originate from reputable media sources, academic institutions, think tanks, research organisations and other commentators. Topics cover the full breadth of scientific research, politics and economics, literature, art, music and much more. The enrichment articles complement the wide range of lectures, playing a vital role in broadening our students’ knowledge, understanding and experience.

A few boys also pursue GCSE Mandarin studies at this time
