A tradition of benefaction and inclusivity has supported Bishop Wordsworth Grammar School since 1890, each generation benefitting from the generosity of those who have gone before. Our aim to offer a first-rate educational experience which takes students far beyond the regular curriculum undoubtedly comes with a cost, and ongoing financial constraints from government funding are challenging our aspirations. We want to ensure we’re able to offer the same ‘Bishop's experience’ for every one of our students for this year and in the years to come, but we can only achieve this with your financial support.
We’ve introduced the Above and Beyond Appeal to bridge the gap between where basic Government funding ends and the Bishop Wordsworth’s experience begins. Donations help fund the co-curricular and enrichment “extras” that support the outstanding teaching and learning we offer every child at our school. These include resources for lunchtime Clubs and Societies, extended Careers support (including our annual HE and careers conference), Art and Music resources, equipment and opportunities for Sport and Adventure, STEM resources, extras for Pastoral care, and much more.
Our preference is a monthly or one-off gift to our Above and Beyond Appeal which will have a direct and meaningful impact for our Students and our School. You can choose to support the school in a way that resonates with you, from donating to specific campaigns and bursaries, to remembering Bishop Wordsworth's in your will with a legacy gift. However you choose to support, you will be helping transform the lives of Bishop's pupils now, and in the future.

Our major fundraising campaigns for this year are Pitch In and Fine Tuning. The Pitch In campaign is raising funds for a new sports Artificial Grass Pitch (AGP) and cricket facilities, we are also Fine Tuning the music department by raising funds for an exciting music technology suite, instruments and a recording studio.
There is a fantastic scheme whereby employers provide funding for charities through their employees. It is a very simple yet immensely useful tool from which extra funding can be raised for our school. Generally speaking, banks and building societies, insurance companies, supermarkets, utilities providers, phone companies and car manufacturers are known historically to offer match funding schemes. Please contact your Human Resources department to find out if they operate a matching gift scheme. In most cases, the company will match your donation pound for pound up to a specific level.
In return for an annual fee, the BWS Business Partnership scheme offers your business the opportunity to network with other Partner members and to promote your services to our school’s vast network of parents, alumni, pupils and the wider Wordsworthian community. The scheme provides opportunities for your business including marketing, advertising and networking, access to bright young talent, and the chance to boost your CSR credentials. Find out more here.

For students and families experiencing financial difficulties, there are several ways we may be able to offer support. The Old Wordsworthians’ Association, The Bishop Wordsworth’s School Foundation, and the School Hardship Fund offer the opportunity to apply for financial assistance to help cover costs related to uniforms, extracurricular activities, and transportation. Find out more here.
It is important that parents/guardians understand that there is no obligation to make donations and we understand that families may also be facing financial challenges. Any amount is welcome and no student will be treated differently should their family choose not to contribute.
